Excellent Stick - Players with Large Hands Beware

Excellent Stick - Players with Large Hands Beware
This is my first time buying a high end Hori stick. I've used Hori sticks in the past (Fighting stick 3 is what I had before), and have really liked them - even preferring it to the earlier Mad Catz sticks. This stick is definitely a step up from what I had.Design-wise, I love it. It's elegant, and the conservative yet cool looking all at the same time. The stick has some heft to it as well, which is a good thing. I don't have to worry about it slipping due to the rubber pads attached to the bottom of the stick (which also minimizes the shock of cold metal touching your skin if using it in your lap). Also, because it's wider than my previous stick, I don't have to strain to hold it in place when in my lap (I'm a fairly large and tall person)The Hyabusa stick is super responsive and easy to use. It has more give than the Fighting Stick 3, so it requires less force to execute moves. I'm a novice arcade stick user and so I had to spend a few hours trying to get used to it and finally got comfortable with my execution using this stick. There's just one small problem:This thing hurts my hand to use.The reason it hurts my hand because of how close the stick is to the bottom of the base. The edge of the base falls right in the middle of the back of my hand and it actually made my hand sore after using it for several hours. If there were more room for my entire hand to rest on the base, I would have no complaints at all about this stick, but that's a deal breaker for me. it's unfortunate because I really like this stick otherwise. Also, I may be a special case because of the size of my hands and the way I hold the stick, but for 150 bucks, I need to be comfortable while playing.Overall, the RAP 4 Kai is really nice and I would recommend it unless you have large hands. From what I've seen, the newer MadCatz sticks have more space between the stick and the bottom of the base, so I'll probably check them out.

Just received my HORI Pro 4 KAI, and I love it. Things to note however for potential buyers.

1.) It ships in it's original box that says exactly what it is on it, along PS3/PS4, so if you live in a high crime area, be wary of where you ship it. Deliveries here simply sit out on the front step for all to see, thankfully I was here to receive it.

2.) I noticed immediately that my package had been opened prior to me receiving it. In the photo, you can see the stickers are replaced, and the inside packaging was untaped. I suspect that because it's so large, and contains lots of wires, it was probably flagged by x-ray and inspected, but the item is in perfect condition. So don't panic if you see this happen to yours as well.

First impressions: It's plug and play, and works great. Case has rubber pads on the bottom so it doesn't scoot around on your lap or tabletop, and the buttons are loose, but responsive. The case itself is large, much larger than anticipated, but that's not a bad thing at all. It's wide enough to cover my whole forearm, and I'm 6 tall'+ a few. Sits very well on your lap, not uncomfortable at all. Not a ton of palm room on this model, but I find that the base of my palm rests on the bezel quite comfortably, and I have fairly large hands.

After a few hours of play, there is no discomfort or cramping, and I'm very pleased with it.

If I had to pick one bad thing (and it's minor) it's that the stick itself is so bland. It's black on black, with white trims around the buttons. However, this is easily changeable, and I most likely will be changing the artwork in time.

I'm immensely pleased with my purchase, and this stick is a wonderful addition to my cabinet. Beats out the more expensive branded sticks like Madcatz and the TE line, if you're on the fence, this won't let you down.

I was surprised to find out that this stick was an officially licensed stick for Playstation as well as a genuine, high quality Hori stick. When I first saw it was for PS3/PS4 as well as the price, I was skeptical about the legitimacy of the item as far as performance was concerned, man, was I wrong.

After using it for the past few weeks, I've been truly playing at my best, outplaying my abilities that I have on my Madcatz Round One TE, which had been my go to stick for everything. It was a shock at the performance difference between the two I must say.

Pros: Solid structure, great weight, an impressively response joystick (Hayabusa joystick to be percise) and just a great performing piece.

Cons: Is a little long/bulky, the stock buttons (which aren't really a con) felt as though they stuck a little, but that's because they are high performance Kuro buttons (which is the official buttons produced by Hori themselves). The last con is just a personal quirk and that is that its nearly impossible to add a personal artwork to it without it being a laminated label or big sticker.

If you're looking for a solid stick that works wonderfully on both PS3 and PS4 that won't break break your wallet, the Hori Real Arcade 4 Kai is definitely the way to go for performance and stability, I highly recommend it to both beginning players AND top tier professionals alike.

The price may make it sound cheap compared to the top tier Madcatz TE2s and the other latch sticks who break our wallets now, but having used them as well, I find myself seriously wondering why they break their wallets over them (performance wise).

To give you an idea of how much I enjoy and love this Arcade Stick, I usually NEVER write reviews on Amazon (which is pretty bad), much less anything in-depth. If you give this stick a try, you will not be disappointed!

It's a quality product. I was concerned because some of the reviews were negative. The whole thing looks really stretched out to me in the pictures but it's actually really cool looking in person. The buttons don't squeak (someone made a big deal about that). The stick has a nice "broken in" feel. There's enough room on the platform for your left hand and your right hand rests on the beveled edge. I only played for an hour, and it was comfortable enough not to concern myself with thinking about it! There's mats on the bottom of it of a foamy material. should help anchor to a table.

    Play tests:
    - SF2 (PC) roundhouse wouldn't map correctly, could be specific to my set up. I didn't get hung up on it though, as I was just play testing punch latency and specials. Everything was acceptable. Light punches came out at the same timing from the stick as the keyboard. If there's a PC latency I couldn't see it in that play test. Tested Ken, fireballs were tight, Tetsumaki combos came out easy, shoryuken on reaction. Negative edge stuff was seamless. I'm a little rusty on SF but it seemed really good for the PC.

    - Pac-Man (PC, PS3 (namco museum)) I didn't overshoot any turns, played for 10 minutes or so. Stick worked fine.

    - Capcom vs SNK 2 (PS3 - but it's the PS2 version) works great. I played the computer but the matches went well. I nailed combos, was able to operate on reaction, spacing was fine for me. Blanka, Honda, Ken - able to do supers without compromise. Play seemed unhindered.

    - Tekken Revolution - no problem in practice mode. Was able to nail Paul's sways/ punch sways (df+1 b...). Just frame was fine. everything seemed on point. Online matches were a different story! The stick has no control over lag ;)

I really thought about spending the extra bucks for the madkatz stick. I have the SF4 stick for 360 and like it. So far, I would put the RAP4 on that level of quality, just different design (different buttons, different stick feel, good heft but less mass overall). I saved $50 over the current madkatz models and got a great stick. If, after heavy play I learn something important, I'll update the review.

Great joystick for the price. I have read by some readers that the buttons are mushi compared to the sanwa buttons, which is true, but they feel great and very sensitive/responsive. You get use to them very quickly. Also, the hayabusa joystick is great. I also have a Sanwa JLF and honestly, they both feel great, but I do have a preference towards the hayabusa joystick as it just feels less tense, but it all comes down to preference. The size and wight feels just right. There is 2 anti slip pads underneath that work great on a surface and and your lap. As stated before, you can easily swap the buttons and joystick for sanwa parts in this joystick. Works on ps4/ps3 & pc. Bought this and got the stick 2 days later even if i chose regular shipping. Again, for the price, this is a great fightstick. Very happy with this one!
