- Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2016Ive baught this a couple years ago in high school and, well as much as I did love this amazing thing. I dont understand why people raise up the price. Id say there should be a law to it. But im getting ahead of myself.
Simple as it can be its just a new 3ds XL with a gold finish of a spooky mask. Yes its cool, but know that it yes is being still used currently even though a new console is out now called the Nintendo Switch. You should understand as much as a color difference than the others, you shouldnt jack up the price for it. Thats just insane. Ive been playing a butt ton of games like metroid, luigi's mansion, resident evil, mario maker and more! I can get the same experience on most new 3ds's because its the same machine. Just an upgraded 3ds with the nub (R stick) and Zl & Zr (L2 & R2) with amiibo but honestly that one you can buy seperatley with that reader incase you arent fully interested. This is just a fun portable console with the added features it shouldve had when it was first made in the 3ds family. But id say id do the job if you get red or black. Or if you dont want to invest into one solid machine. Just get a normal 3ds, get a circle pad pro & an NFC reader and youll have just as much stuff as the N3ds has. This or the other is up to you and i think the choice shouldnt be in the scalpers hands. But after the fun ive had. I was thinking if giving mine to another. Someone who can enjoy it as much as i have. Not as high as almost 400$ thatd be too much!

- Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2015i decided to get this version of the handheld on order to play the newer games like Xenoblade chronicles .
now out ofthe box as the system itself here note worthy improvements:-
- the system is a bit bigger by a tiny margin
- the new button layout might confuse you at first but its for the better when you retire the old 3ds Xl
-the 3D in this system is AMAZING and it what it should have been all along playing it on all the time is really fun now but drains the battery like a V12 engine with max sound and network on .
- the auto brightness feature is also very good on adapting your light surroundings and you can turn it off if you like a pre set brightness as well
- sound might be a bit better but battery life is the same depending on your settings
- the C nob is kinda Meh but it works on JRPGs well enough for camera control but DON'T PRESS HARD ON IT !!!!!!
now what i didn't like is the system transfer cuz it takes a while and it feels like a job for an IT specialist to do , so be carfull when doing the transfer process .

- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2019The design is fantastic. The 3DS XL is fun to play. There is a vast selection of games to choose from. The battery life is great. My only complaint for this particular unit is that the paint is peeling off in big sections on both sides. I keep it covered when not in use and kids don't handle it so I'm pretty upset because the design is the only reason I bought it.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2016I hate to admit that I purchased this device for my grandson as a gift. My grandson is a HUGE Zelda fan and a total gamer. He was really looking forward to purchasing this version of the 3DS but it sold out so quickly online and in the stores before he could get his hands on one even though he tried the same day they came out. Neither of us was going to give in to the scalpers to purchase one of these. The prices were going up to $500 and the scalpers were advertising these everywhere. After a couple of months the price came down to around $300, which was still too much, but I gave in and purchased this for him for his birthday over a year ago and have not regretted it. He LOVES this more than any console he has had so far and takes with him everywhere.
The 5 stars is for the product itself. I know the majority of reviews are low because of the way this was marketed and I understand that, but the product itself has proven to be of great quality.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2015I did not realize this version did not include the Majora's Mask game. Did I miss if that was stated anywhere other than in the reviews? I read that in the reviews after I got it and realized. I already knew the price was too high, but I was fine with it thinking the game was included. I would not have purchased this otherwise. This is partially my fault for not doing more research. My son wanted the 3ds Majora's Mask edition that came with the game already installed on the system. I saw this was the only one I could order.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2015While it's a great product, I'm giving a low rating because I had to buy it from someone who was trying to make a huge profit off of a high demand item. Yes I got it for only a 13% markup but that's only 4 months into release and only after the Amazon community helped encourage people to refuse to pay outrageous inflation.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2015The product is a must have for a Zelda fan and collector. There is not much to say about this, it is a great addition to the 3DS family and this version in particular is beautiful, apart from being faster than normal 3DSs.
As for the scalper thing, I don't like them, but it was the only way for me to getmy hands on this and the difference wasn't as much as expected. If I went through the conventional way to get this, I would have payed about 500$, intead of the 280$ I payed, because that would be the official price in my country.
Also, the seller was thoughtful and helpful during all the proccess. Scalping aside, it is a great vendor, as it delivered exactly what was promised and in record time.
I know scalping is a bad practice, but you people should walk a mile on the shoes of people from outside the North America and Europe to see if they even have valid choices... I think much of this hate is exagerated and uncalled for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Device
Notwithstanding the ridiculous prices set by scalpers, the product itself is great. The design on the front is very nice to look at, it is printed beautifully and is an excellent addition to the collection of Zelda fans. I have only owned and used the original Nintendo 3DS prior and that is what I will be basing my comparisons on.
On the improvements side, I personally use 3D infrequently however when I do use it its great in that it doesn't fail to track my face and the 3D effect isn't broken. The C-Stick is an adequate for camera controls but could have been improved in terms of ease of use, it works flawlessly once you get the hang of it. The screens and nice and have better colour reproduction than the previous model of 3DS, the auto brightness, while not perfect, work fairly well and keeps the backlight at a proper level. The improvements to the processing power is noticeable even without games that support it, the menu system is much snappier and loading times are reduced, the web browser is much improved and actually lets you view 3D videos using HTML5. The only downside I can see with this device is the microSD card and its placement, however it was not an issue with me and the device allows for wireless management of the microSD card anyway.
Overall if you can get it at retail price and a huge LoZ fan, this is an excellent product for you.
Pros
Design on front
Enhanced controls (C-Stick and ZL/R)
3D that works well
Enhanced Processing Power (Dual vs Quad Core CPU and double the RAM)
Web browser that can actually be used
Cons
Glossy fingerprint magnet
microSD card more difficult to access

5.0 out of 5 stars The Highlight of my collection.
The system is beautiful and functional. Being a lifelong fan of the Legend of Zelda series this item was a MUST HAVE for me. I was extremely disappointed with Nintendo and the scalpers for the lack of stock and the high prices. I scored one at MSRP from Amazon a couple weeks ago. Since then they have put one for sale almost every day at MSRP. If your considering buying one from a scalper, don't! The system itself has one upgrade that stands out above the rest, the face tracking 3D. Its amazing and no longer do you have to look straight at the screen to get a clear 3D image. If it wasn't for this special edition I wouldn't have upgraded. I'm glad I did!

3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful front cover design
Pros: Beautiful front cover design, awesome button layout, face tracking 3D (which was promised with the first 3DS), amiibo compatibility, and it's faster (load times shorter, downloads faster).
Cons: Does NOT come with AC adapter or Majora's Mask game (downloadable code would have been nice), Cartridge slot located in awkward position where a game could be ejected by accident, more expensive than the standard 3DS XL (which DOES come with an AC adapter), and you Have to unscrew backplate to take out Memory card and transfer memory.
Not an essential upgrade at this point, unless you want to experience Xenoblade Chronicles 3D or if your old 3DS is busted.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this thing!
I am loving this thing! I upgraded from the original 3DS to this. The only drawbacks I can see is the fact they don't come with a power cord. And no SD slot for extra memory on the side like the original 3DS.
The system comes with a 4 gig micro SD card, So I ran over to Best Buy and picked up a 32 gig, which is the max this system can handle with out playing around with it. Changing out the SD card requires you to remove the back cover so their is a small chance to mess up the cover while doing this, Take a look at some video's online to do it right,
The power cord problem was not an issue with me as I have 6 of the stupid things laying around from my DS's and 3DS.
The system is much faster loading games and even downloading. With the new card I went to my nintendo shop account and downloaded every game I had listed their. Using the Internet is much faster as well. Youtube and Netflix load fast and run great. I used to have some issues connecting to the internet with my old 3DS, those problems are gone.
The 3D effects are great, I've never gotten head aches from the effects so I always have my systems in 3D. The new way they track where your head is means you never really have that ghosting that was a problem with the old ones, Unless you were always able to hold it perfectly still and the 3DS moved slightly you would see the effects ghost. They are gone.
They moved the stylus and the game slot to the bottom of the system. Which was weird at first, but it's not really an issue. The power button is also on the bottom and some people were worried they would turn the system off by mistake but I can't see this being an issue unless you dropped it. Start and select are moved to the right of the screen, underneath the A B X Y buttons. The C stick is really nice for the camera control but as it stands the extra L and R button don't seem to do much.
Overall I'd give this a 9.5 out of 10

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent handheld
Besides the great design, the screen is better than the original Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL. Colours look more vibrant and picture is a bit sharper.
