You can't really expect the circle pad pro for the 3ds xl to be small. And it isn't. It's big. How big? Big enough to make it uncomfortable to put in my bag, impossible to slip in my pocket. But you know that going in.
However, for its big size, it gets the job done, and it does it comfortably.
Comparing it to the regular 3ds, the 3ds xl is alot bigger, and for my hands, a lot more comfortable to hold. Add a circle pad pro to that equation and it becomes all the easier to hold. Dont know about it being comfortable for kids though. I bought the version that had japanese print on the box, and was a little worried that it wouldnt work with my american bought 3ds. However it worked perfectly.
Ive had the circle pad pro for about two months now, and havent gone tru the first battery yet (it only uses one), but i havent done any intensive gaming on it, so far around maybe 20 hours. Ive been using it for kingdom hearts 3d, and it really makes the game camera alot easier to control. I also own Resident Evil Revelations, but havent really given it much of a go with the circle pad pro yet.
The only downside is that, on account of its design, it completely blocks off access to your stylus. So i end up doing a lot of finger mashing on the touch screen, but so far it hasnt been inconvenient at all. You cant shut off wireless either, not without removing the 3ds first.
I think the circle pad pro communicates with the 3ds thru infrared, so no cables are necessary. It adds an extra circle pad (duh), and what came as a surprise -two new buttons. Overall it has 3 buttons, an R button because it blocks off the 3ds's R button; but it also has two triggers ZL and ZR
With these additions, i have no complaints about the circle pad pro, just a "shame on you" to nintendo for not designing the 3ds xl with all these things already built in.

I purchased this for Majoras Mask 3D and...
I was a bit worried that this wouldn't work with my US 3DS XL, but after unwrapping it the item itself has "Nintendo 3DS XL/ Nintendo 3ds LL" engraved on it and it did work despite being in a Japanese box. It requires a AAA battery, but one is included so you do not need to worry right away. The XL easily attaches to the system and it can be popped off without much pressure so it shouldn't scuff up your 3DS's paint.Its very awkward to hold at first, and I'm still not fully used to it, but since I don't want to shell out another $200 for the "New" 3DS XL I'm glad that I can have full use of the camera for only a bit extra.The one thing I really do like about the CPP is that, at least for me, It really helps me to maintain the 3D effect without holding the DS differently than I usually would. I always have to hold the DS a bit to the left to have the images combine and look right, and since the CPP adds a bit of extra space to the right, it works out perfectly for me.While Its not very convenient to carry around nor too comfortable to hold, It works fine and actually helps me a lot so I like it.

the wraps within are wild open as well.
I can even see signs of damage on the controller when the plastic turned white.

Consigliatissimo! Ne vale davvero la pena ;)
Il prodotto é arrivato secondo i tempi stabiliti. Bisogna tenere conto che dopotutto arriva dal Giappone, ma nonostante l'attesa ne vale davvero la pena! Il Pad funziona perfettamente e aumenta di molto la dimensione del gaming attraverso il Nintendo 3DS XL. Una volta installato (basta attaccare semplicemente il pad e via) in mano é come tenere un joystick, e aumenta ulteriormente il comfort del 3DS. Per giochi come Monster consiglio vivamente l'acquisto, soprattutto ai possessori del 3DS XL. Senza acquistare il new, con questo pad avrete una comodità d'uso davvero ottima. Insomma, ad un prezzo ridotto vi portate a casa un upgrade notevole. La comodità del joystick, a differenza del new 3DS é superiore, poiché non avrete un bottoncino piccolo, ma un pad grande quanto quello sinistro (e lo dico dopo aver provato per un giorno tale 'console').GiulioConsigliatissimo! Ne vale davvero la pena ;)
